Water for California

Having experienced a number of periods of rainfall in Southern California and watched the resulting effects of runoff on the communities downstream, I have considerable trouble understanding why this state and the people within it allow billions of gallons of water to simply flow back into the Pacific Ocean with nary a thought for tomorrow!

I have a proposal… why can’t the state hydrologists and engineers devise an infrastructure modification that would divert the billions or trillions of gallons of water that falls on this state when storms occur either back into the existing aqueducts beneath it or construct cisterns that would capture it for later purification and use, similar to what civilizations did in other parts of the world for millennia?

I understand that runoff picks up contaminants in its run to the ocean but with modern purification methods that already exist; such challenges can be easily mitigated by engineers. Water departments reclaim our sewage for reuse and pump reclaimed water into the aqueducts already in this state; why not do the same with runoff?

There is another benefit to setting up such an infrastructure, instead of the water overloading the drainage system and flooding property, it would be drained underground and become barely a trickle at the coast saving millions if not billions of dollars in damages.

I’m not suggesting that this be done by private corporations to further plunder the people but by the state itself, since the primary duty of the state is to secure our natural rights; access to water is a right every living thing in creation requires for life. Seeing what corporations have already done to our land, water, and air, I would prefer that servants accountable to the people and charged with their best interest be tasked with this project along with severe consequences for failure to perform their duty with honor.

Think about this… not just those of you in California but every state. There is a ready labor force within our states that are already being paid by the states for doing little more than filling out forms; why not require them to work for the People who are paying them for the benefit of all? Just a thought…
